Out of memory error

Oct 13, 2009 Character Editor is a tool for Dragon Age: Origins created by.It allows user to create and modify characters and then use them in the game. It was created by people from BioWare and released before the launch of the game. Save the game as “1”. ALT TAB or exit the game. Open the EDITOR in pyGFF, select FILE, select OPEN, go to something like Documents Bioware Dragon Age Characters (NAME) Saves Slot 1 1.das. Expand the SAVEGAMEPARTYLIST, expand the SAVEGAMEBACKPACK and there you see the.UTI IDs.

One word of advice. When you load the save file and do your edit, don't try to save over the same file, or it's likely to crash. Instead, load the save file, rename the original save file (I like to add a.bak extension so the game won't recognise it), then do your edit and save the file with the original filename. A generator for Dragon Age: Origins save files that can be imported into Dragon Age 2 with user-specified options for plot, characters, etc. This is the source code to a tool that was originally released on Bioware Social Network in 2011, with some changes: General code cleanup. BioWare has released a 'developer-grade' toolset (the same one that they used to make Dragon Age: Origins) to allow modification and customization of the game (including the editing of saved games). Users of the toolset have the ability to customize individual game features such as enemy AI and character creation. They also gain the ability to create new and unique stand-alone games.

The GFF editor that comes with the toolset is not very efficiently programmed, unfortunately. When opening GFF files as small as 7 megabytes or so (which savegames can easily reach) the editor's memory usage can skyrocket above 3 gigabytes and potentially cause the editor to crash.

While the memory usage itself can't be worked around presently (it's an inherent flaw in the editor), it is possible to make the editor less prone to crashing when it reaches such large memory sizes using a trick developed by Krayzie_3334.[1]

  1. Download CFF Explorer,
  2. Open Dragonagetoolset.exe with CFF (make a backup first)
  3. In the Left-Hand Pane, Left Click ( Highlight ) 'File Header'
  4. In the Right-Hand Pane Click on the 'Click here' box.
  5. In the 'Characteristics Window' Check the 'App can handle >2GB address space' box.
  6. Click OK
  7. File -> Save & Exit.
